Troubled by the Rupee appreciation eroding their competitiveness in the global market, exporters are all set to raise the issue with the Government during the Board of Trade (BoT) meeting slated to be held on October 19. They will demand duty benefits and credit at lower interest rate.

Members are informed that the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India had convened a joint meeting on all India basis with all stakeholders of textile industry from Cotton to garments, Cotton Traders, Yarn Manufacturers, Fabric Manufacturers, Handloom, Powerloom, Made ups and including Woven and knitwear garment manufacturers (8.10.2010) in Chennai to discuss the current scenario in cotton and Yarn prices. This is the first time all sectors related to textile industry has participated in the meeting to come to an understanding in price related issues.

Setting aside apprehensions of the textile industry, union textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran Friday said that the central government will ensure that no cotton is exported before domestic demand is fully met and export of raw cotton does not exceed 55 lakh bales this year. (1 bale=170 kg)

| Hong Kong : CCCT joins the International Apparel Federation (October 08, 10)|
The Chairman of the China Chamber for import and export of Textiles Mr. Wang Shenyang and Mr. Vassilis Masselos, President of the International Apparel Federation signed an agreement on Tuesday October 5th in Hong Kong, that welcomed CCCT as a member association of the IAF. The signature ceremony took place before the opening of the 26th World Apparel Convention that is co-organised by the IAF and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd concurrently with the Interstoff Asia Essential Autumn exhibition.

Amid fears over lower cotton yield this season, Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) is set to enter Punjab and Haryana markets within a week for buying crop, a move which will curb wide variation in cotton prices.
