Historic Costume Gallery of Stephens Collage has organized an expo entitled, Hidden Assets: A Rare Exhibition of the Historic Costume Archives, where visitors get a rare opportunity to glance at the unique relics on display.
The event opened on April 10 is gathering roaring reviews from the fashion designing students of the collage.
The purpose of the exhibition is to showcase the invaluable resource that is the Matilda Magnus Price Historic Fashion Collection of more than 12,000 garments and accessories from a variety of donors.
The Matilda Magnus Price Historic Fashion Collection includes items dating back to the 1700s, and it is housed in the Stephens College Costume Research Library.
In the expo, visitors are able to peek at the historic garments, from the late 18th century to the 1920s. Shoes, hats and handbags, from the early 1800s till today, are on display. A peach crepe silk bonnet from 1886, white leather wedding slippers from the mid-19th century and a dress from the 1920s are attracting a lot of spectators.
The exhibit will include self-guided tours through the hanging garments by decade, from the early 19th century to the 1970s, and more than 2,000 items from the fashion archive are displayed here.
The exposition will run till May 10, at the garden level of Lela Raney Wood Hall.
